Last night (April 22), I went to the Yellow Door to hear author Steven Manners, one my former mentors, read from his latest novel Valley of Fire. I was piqued by the passage he read, so I bought his book. Is the publishing industry on life support?

No. Not according to Mr. Nicholas Hoare, owner of Nicholas Hoare Bookstores. Monday night (April 12th) I attended a Canadian Authors' Association meeting where he discussed the future of the publishing industry in Canada.

He said that there’s a decline in Canadian books because a lot of material falls between the cracks. Electronics are the culprits, too, as they are choking the market. However, the economy or the big book companies have nothing to do with Canadiana’s poor performance.…
